Specimen Collection Details
Collection:
One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST).
Handling:
Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum from cells and pour into a plastic vial immeditely. Label specimens plainly as ”acute” or ”convalescent.” Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Stability:
After separation from clot, specimen stable 48 hours ambient, 14 days refrigerated or 1 year frozen.
Standard Volume:
1 mL serum.
Minimum Volume:
0.5 mL serum.
Transport:
Refrigerated.
Comments:
Parallel testing is preferred and convalescent specimens MUST be received within 30 days from receipt of the acute specimen.
Rejection Criteria:
Plasma; hemolyzed, contaminated or severely lipemic specimens.
