82680:COPPER, 24-HOUR URINE
Methodology: Inductively Coupled Plasma/Mass Spectroscopy (ICP/MS)
Edit Date: 5/18/2009
Performed: Monday-Saturday
Released: 24-72 hours after setup at PeaceHealth Laboratories’ reference lab.
CPT Code: 82525-90
Specimen Collection Details
Collection: 24-hour or random urine in a clean, dry plastic container with no metal caps or glued inserts. Refrigerate during collection, handling, and transport.
Handling: Mix well and aliquot into two ARUP transport tubes, available from Client Services. Note total volume of collection and collection times on tubes, or container, and on requisition.
Stability: 7 days ambient, 14 days refrigerated, or 1 year frozen.
Standard Volume: 10 mL aliquot from a well-mixed 24-hour or random collection.
Minimum Volume: 5 mL urine.
Transport: Refrigerated.
Comments: Studies indicate that refrigeration alone of urine during and after collection preserves the specimen adequately if tested within 14 days of collection.
If the specimen is collected and stored in the appropriate container, the trace element values do not change with time.
Rejection Criteria: Urine collected within 48 hours of the administration of a gadolinium (Gd) containing contrast media (may occur with MRI studies); acid-preserved urine.

Copper, Urine 0.2-8.0 ug/L
Copper, Urine (24-hour) 3-50 ug/d
Creatine (24-hour) By report (reports may vary based on instrumentation)
Copper per gram of Creatinine No reference interval (ug/g CRT)
