91060:HEPATITIS B VIRAL DNA BY REAL-TIME PCR
Methodology: | Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT/PCR)
Edit Date: | 8/19/2010 | ||||||||
Performed: | Daily | ||||||||
Released: | 5 days after setup at PeaceHealth Laboratories’ reference lab.
CPT Code: | 87517-90 | ||||||||
Specimen Collection Details
Collection: | One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST). Also acceptable: One 4 mL lavender top tube (EDTA).
Handling: | Handle specimen aseptically. Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum or plasma into a plastic vial. Freeze. Allow no more than one freeze/thaw cycle. If multiple tests are ordered, send separate specimen for this test.
Stability: | On cells: 6 hours ambient. Unstable refrigerated or frozen. Removed from cells: 72 hours ambient, 7 days refrigerated, or 6 weeks frozen. |
||||||||
Standard Volume: | 2 mL serum or plasma.
Minimum Volume: | 0.75 mL serum or plasma.
Transport: | Frozen on dry ice.
Comments: | An interpretation of “Not Detected” does not rule out the presence of PCR inhibitors in the patient specimen or Hepatitis B Virus DNA concentrations below the level of detection of the assay. Care should be taken when interpreting any single viral load determination.
Rejection Criteria: | Non-frozen or heparinized specimen; polystyrene tube. |
The quantitative range of this assay is 1.5-8.0 log IU/mL (29-110,000,000 IU/mL)
|
|||||||||||||||||||
1 IU/mL of HBV DNA is approximately 5.8 copies/mL.
|
|||||||||||||||||||
This assay should not be used for blood donor screening, associated re-entry protocols, or for screening Human Cell, Tissues and Cellular Tissue-Based Products (HCT/P).
