Specimen Collection Details
Collection: Two 5 mL red top tubes. Also acceptable: Two 4 mL green top tubes (sodium heparin), 4 mL lavender top tubes (EDTA) or 4 mL grey top tubes (potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride). Do not use serum separator tubes (SST) or plasma separator tube (PST).
Handling: Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum or plasma from cells and pour into a plastic vial. Protect specimen from light. Freeze. If multiple tests are ordered send separate specimen for this test.
Stability: 48 hours ambient, 7 days refrigerated, or 1 month frozen.
Standard Volume: 4 mL serum or plasma.
Minimum Volume: 2 mL serum or plasma.
Transport: Frozen, on dry ice.
Comments: Collect sample 8-12 hours after oral dose. Measure at least 14 days after initiating treatment.
Rejection Criteria: Use of SST or PST.

Reference Range:
0.2-2.0 ng/mL.
>2.8 ng/mL – a dose reduction should be considered.
