Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST).
Handling: Centrifuge with stopper in place within 1 hour of collection. Do no open the tube or split the specimen.
Stability: Specimen stable 24 hours ambient or 1 week refrigerated. Specimen unstable frozen.
Standard Volume: 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST).
Minimum Volume: 4 mL serum separator tube (SST).
Transport: Serum in original serum separator tube (SST) refrigerated at 2-8° C. Do not freeze. Do not expose to air at any time during collection or transport process.
Comments: Ionized calcium is the physiologically active form of calcium essential for transmission of nerve impulses, muscle contractions, enzyme reactions and blood coagulation.
