Specimen Collection Details
Collection:
One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST). Also acceptable: One 4 mL green top tube (heparin). Patient should be fasting 9-12 hours before collection.
Handling:
Centrifuge within 2 hours of collection. Separate serum or plasma from cells. Refrigerate.
Stability:
6 days refrigerated at 2-8° C, or 3 months frozen at -25° C if frozen within 24 hours of collection.
Standard Volume:
4 mL serum.
Minimum Volume:
2 mL serum.
Transport:
Refrigerated.
Comments:
A measured Direct LDL is added if the triglyceride level is 400 mg/dL or greater. If the Direct LDL is indicated, an additional charge will be made.
Rejection Criteria:
Gross hemolysis.
