Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 5 mL red top tube. Also acceptable: One 4 mL green top tube (heparin), 4 mL lavender top tube (EDTA), or 4 mL grey top tube (sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate). Do not use serum separator tube (SST) or plasma separator tube (PST).
Handling: Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum or plasma from cells and pour into a plastic vial.
Stability: Specimen stable 6 weeks ambient, 6 weeks refrigerated, or 2 months frozen.
Standard Volume: 2 mL serum or plasma.
Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL serum or plasma.
Transport: Refrigerated.
Rejection Criteria: Specimen in serum separator tube (SST) or PST.
