Specimen Collection Details
Collection:
One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST). Also acceptable: One 4.5 mL light green plasma separator tube (PST), 4 mL lavender top tube (EDTA), 4.5 mL light blue top tube, or 4 mL green top tube (heparin).
Handling:
Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum or plasma from cells immediately and pour into a plastic vial. Freeze. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles. Submit specimens according to Infectious Subtances Shipping Guidelines.
Stability:
7 days ambient (not preferred), 7 days refrigerated, or indefinitely if frozen.
Standard Volume:
1 mL serum or plasma.
Minimum Volume:
0.5 mL serum or plasma.
Transport:
Frozen on dry ice.

Order this assay only when a specimen is repeatedly reactive for HIV-1 or HIV-1-2 antibodies. This assay is intended for clinical diagnosis and should not be considered for blood donor screening or associated re-entry protocols, or for screening Human Cell, Tissues and Cellular and Tissue-Based products (HCT/P).
