Specimen Collection Details
Collection: Two 5 mL lavender top tubes (EDTA).
Handling: Centrifuge and separate plasma from cells and pour into a plastic vial. Freeze within 2 hours of collection. Do not allow to thaw.
Standard Volume: 3 mL plasma.
Minimum Volume: 2 mL plasma.
Transport: Frozen on dry ice. Do not ship on Fridays. Send specimen according to Infectious Substance Shipping Guidelines.
Comments: Direct measurement of the drug susceptibility of a patient’s HIV-1 drug resistance mutations by sequencing. Test is intended only for patients with viral loads ≥ 500 copies/mL.
Rejection Criteria: Thawed specimen; specimens not frozen within 2 hours of collection.
