Specimen Collection Details
Collection: 4 mL blood in a pre-chilled 4 mL lavender top tube (EDTA).
Handling: Immediately add chilled Aprotinin (0.04 cc Aprotinin per mL whole blood), available from the Sendout Department, to the chilled EDTA tube. Mix thoroughly and immediately centrifuge in refrigerated centrifuge. Separate plasma from cells into a plastic vial. Freeze immediately. If multiple tests are ordered, send separate specimen for this test.
Stability: 3 months frozen. Specimen unstable ambient or refrigerated.
Standard Volume: 1 mL plasma with Aprotinin.
Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL plasma with Aprotinin.
Transport: Frozen on dry ice.
Comments: To prevent analyte degradation, aprotinin inhibitor is the required specimen preservative for this assay.
Rejection Criteria: Specimen without Aprotinin; specimen frozen in glass container.
