Patient should be fasting 12-16 hours. One 4 mL lavender top tube (EDTA) and three 7.5 mL serum separator tubes (SST).
Handling:
Wrap one SST in foil to protect from light. Allow all SSTs to clot, centrifuge within 2 hours of collection, separate serum from foil-wrapped SST and continue to protect from light. Other two SSTs can be transported in original tubes. Refrigerate. Transport all specimens within 12 hours of collection.
Standard Volume:
4 mL EDTA whole blood and 6 mL serum.
Minimum Volume:
2 mL EDTA whole blood and 3.5 mL serum.
Transport:
Refrigerated.
Rejection Criteria:
Specimen age; hemolysis or lipemia; frozen specimen.
