Specimen Collection Details
Body fluid in a 4 mL or 2 mL lavender top tube (EDTA). Also acceptable: Green top tube (heparin). No anticoagulant is required for cerebrospinal fluid (CSF); submit in red top tube or CSF collection kit. Note: If CSF culture is also requested, an unrefrigerated fraction of CSF should be submitted for culture.
Refrigerate and send to arrive at laboratory within 24 hours of collection. Indicate source.

Body fluid specimens without anticoagulant may be submitted, but results may be affected by clotting.
