BONE MARROW: 1-3 mL in a 4 mL green top tube (sodium heparin) or yellow top tube (ACD). Lithium heparin is acceptable but not preferred for flow cytometry testing, and is specifically unacceptable for cytogenetic testing as it prevents cell division. PERIPHERAL BLOOD: One 4 mL lavender top tube (EDTA) AND either one 4 mL green top tube (sodium heparin) or yellow top tube (ACD). BODY FLUID: At least 5 mL fluid preferred. For fluids with low cell counts, larger volumes will improve results.
Mix bone marrow or body fluid with equal volume of RPMI. available from Client Services. Submit to laboratory within 24 hours. If possible, include bone marrow or body fluid slide and blood slide along with relevant history and CBC results.
3 mL bone marrow; 5 mL body fluid; 4 mL EDTA whole blood AND either 4 mL sodium heparin or ACD whole blood.
1 mL bone marrow or body fluid; 2 mL EDTA whole blood AND either 2 mL sodium heparin or ACD whole blood.
Ambient if received in laboratory within 24 hours of collection; or frozen on dry ice.
Poor cell viability; insufficient cells for analysis.
