Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST).
Handling: Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum from cells immediately and pour into a plastic vial.
Stability: 48 hours ambient, 2 weeks refrigerated, or 1 year frozen. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Standard Volume: 1 mL serum.
Minimum Volume: 150 µL serum.
Transport: Refrigerated.
Comments: Titers greater than or equal to 1:80 are suggestive of myasthenia; however, striated muscle antibody can be found in rheumatic fever, myocardial infarction, and a variety of post-cardiotomy states. All positives will be titered to endpoint. If Striated Muscle Antibody is >1:40, a titer will be added.
Rejection Criteria: Plasma; grossly lipemic, hemolyzed, or contaminated specimen.
