Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST).
Handling: Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum from cells and pour into a plastic vial. Refrigerate.
Stability: 7 days ambient, 14 days refrigerated, or 2 months frozen.
Standard Volume: 1 mL serum.
Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL serum.
Transport: Refrigerated.
Comments: Systemic candidiasis is often characterized by markedly elevated levels of Candida-specific antibodies. However, interpretation of Candida antibody results is complicated by detection of these antibodies in healthy individuals, and blunted antibody responses in immunocompromised patients.
