Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST). Also acceptable: One 5 mL red top tube, one 4 mL lavender top tube (EDTA), one 4 mL green top tube (heparin), or one 4.5 mL light blue top tube (sodium citrate).
Handling: Allow to clot, centrifuge and immediately separate serum or plasma from cells into a plastic vial. Refrigerate. Freeze if specimen will not be assayed within 7 days. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Stability: 7 days refrigerated, or indefinitely frozen. Unstable ambient.
Standard Volume: 1 mL serum or plasma.
Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL serum or plasma.
Transport: Refrigerated, or frozen on dry ice.
Comments: All repeatedly reactive EIA results will be confirmed by HTLV 1 Western Blot and HTLV 1 RIPA if indicated. Additional charges will be added.
Rejection Criteria: Hemolytic, lipemic, or heat-inactivated specimen; specimen containing particulate material; repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

This assay should not be used for blood donor screening, associated re-entry protocols, or for screening Human Cell, Tissues and Cellular and Tissue-Based Products (HCT/P).
