Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST).
Handling: Allow to clot, centrifuge and immediately separate serum from cells into a plastic vial. Label specimen clearly as ‘acute’ or ‘convalescent.’
Stability: Specimen stable 48 hours ambient, 14 days refrigerated, or 1 year frozen.
Standard Volume: 1 mL serum.
Minimum Volume: 100 µL serum.
Transport: Refrigerated.
Comments: Paired testing of acute and convalescent specimens is recommended.
Rejection Criteria: Plasma; severely lipemic, hemolyzed or contaminated specimen.

Phase I ≥1:16 No antibody detected
Phase II ≥1:16 No antibody detected
Single phase II IgG titers ≥ 1:256 are considered evidence of C. burnetii infection at some time prior to the date of the serum specimen. Phase I antibody titers ≥ 1:16 are consistent with chronic infection or convalescent phase of Q-Fever.
