Comments: | The underlying defect in paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) has been traced to a gene mutation which codes for a GPI anchor protein which binds complement-regulating proteins to the red cell surface. Absence of GPI anchored proteins such as CD55 and CD59 is a highly specific indication of presence of the PNH defect. | ||||||||
Rejection Criteria: | Clotted, refrigerated or frozen specimen; tubes other than specified; specimen received in laboratory more than 24 hours after collection. |
