Use anaerobic transport system for swabs. Do not refrigerate.
If a syringe is submitted, the needle must be removed and the syringe capped.
Specimen in anaerobic transport media or syringe with air expelled stable 24 hours ambient. Specimen not in anaerobic transport media stable 2 hours ambient, or less, depending on specimen volume. Unstable frozen.
An additional charge will be added for the definitive identification of any isolated organism(s) that resemble Actinomyces.
Delayed transport; unsterile or leaking container; use of lavender tube (EDTA); syringe submitted with needle attached; swab not in transport media; frozen specimen.
