Collection: | Specimens as requested by the ordering physician or client. Collection performed Monday-Saturday by appointment with PeaceHealth Laboratories Outpatient Phlebotomy. Patient must be fasting 8-16 hours prior to collection. Collect one 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST) each draw. Also acceptable: One 4.5 light green top plasma separator tube (PST), one 2 mL grey top tube (potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride), or one 5 mL gold top serum separator tube (SST) for each draw. Procedure: A glucola dose of 75 grams is administered after fasting specimen is drawn. Draw specimens subsequent to the ingestion of the glucola dose according to physician’s or client’s request. If draw times are not specified, draw a fasting, 30-minute, 1-hour, 2-hour, and each hour until the hours requested are completed. Label the fasting specimen and each post glucola specimen with either the time of draw or number of hours post glucose ingestion. |

Clearly indicate the draw time and fasting or minutes post-glucola dose, and the order of each draw, i.e., “1 of 4,” etc., on each specimen. Refrigerate.
Stability: | 8 hours ambient, 6 days refrigerated, or indefinitely if frozen.
