BONE MARROW: 1-3 mL bone marrow in a 3-5 mL green top tube (sodium heparin). BODY FLUID: minimum of 5 mL fluid preferred. For fluids with low cell counts, larger volumes will improve results. LYMPH NODE: submit as much tissue as possible. |
||||||||
Handling: | PERIPHERAL BLOOD: hold ambient or refrigerated. Submit to laboratory within 24 hours of collection. BONE MARROW or BODY FLUID: Mix bone marrow or body fluid with an equal volume of RPMI medium, available from Client Services. Submit to laboratory within 24 hours of collection. LYMPH NODE: place in ambient RPMI medium and keep ambient or refrigerated. If specimen will not arrive at laboratory within 6 hours of collection, mince tissue with scissors to liberate cells and pour into medium. If RPMI or other tissue medium is not available, sterile saline may be used. Do not allow tissue to dry. |
