Specimen Collection Details
Collection:	Bronch wash in 1 mL sterile saline. Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) in anaerobic transport system, suction trap, or other sterile container.
Stability:	Bronch brush stable 2 hours ambient. BAL in anaerobic transport system stable 24 hours ambient. Other containers stable 2 hours ambient. All specimens unstable frozen.
Standard Volume:	Bronchial brush: 1 mL. BAL: 2 mL
Minimum Volume:	Bronchial brush: 1 mL. BAL: 1 mL
Transport:	Ambient.
Comments:	Potential pathogens will be quantified and identified. Susceptibility testing will be done if appropriate. Additional charges will be added for these tests.
Rejection Criteria:	Unsterile container; delayed transport; frozen specimen.
