Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST).
Handling: Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum from cells and pour into a plastic vial. Refrigerate.
Stability: 5 days ambient, 14 days refrigerated, or 12 months frozen.
Standard Volume: 1 mL serum.
Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL serum.
Transport: Refrigerated.
Comments: Tularemia AB titers >= 1:20 are of diagnostic significance. However, titers in this range may also indicate previous infection. Antibody begins to appear 2-3 weeks into the disease. Based on this antibody production pattern, a second specimen will usually demonstrate a diagnostic four-fold rise in titer for patients with active disease.
