Specimen Collection Details
Collection:
One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST).
Handling:
Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum from cells and pour into a plastic vial.
Stability:
72 hours ambient, 14 days refrigerated, or 12 months frozen.
Standard Volume:
1 mL serum.
Minimum Volume:
0.5 mL serum.
Transport:
Refrigerated.
Comments:
Single titers >= 1:8 are suggestive of listeria infection. A four-fold or greater increase in titer between acute and convalescent specimens confirms the diagnosis.
