Collection: | One 5 mL red top tube. Do not use serum separator tube (SST) or plasma separator tube (PST. Also acceptable: One 4 mL lavender top tube (EDTA), 4 mL green top tube (sodium heparin), or 4 mL grey top tube (sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate). | ||||||||
Handling: | Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum or plasma from cells into a plastic vial. Freeze within 2 hours of collection. Critical frozen. Send separate specimen if multiple tests are ordered. | ||||||||
Stability: | 30 days frozen. Unstable ambient or refrigerated. | ||||||||
Standard Volume: | 2.5 mL serum or plasma. | ||||||||

The therapeutic range is not well established. Patient response appears to improve with concentrations between 50 and 100 ng/mL. Levels below 25 ng/mL may have no effect. Poor response and increased toxicity have been reported at concentrations above 100 ng/mL. | |||||||||||||||||||
