Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 6 mL pink top tube (EDTA for Transfusion Service). Also acceptable: One 4 mL lavender top tube (EDTA). Keep ambient before separating plasma.
Handling: Immediately after collection, place tube in a 37° C waterbath for 30 minutes. Centrifuge and immediately separate plasma from cells and transfer to a properly labeled aliquot tube. Separated plasma can be refrigerated. Can be done on site or at a Patient Service Center.
Stability: 7 days ambient or refrigerated.
Standard Volume: 2 mL plasma.
Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL plasma.
Transport: EDTA whole blood ambient; separated plasma refrigerated.
Rejection Criteria: Serum; frozen plasma.
