One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST). Also acceptable: One 5 mL red top tube, 4 mL green top tube (heparin), or 4 mL grey top tube. Specimen should be drawn 30 minutes after infusion.
Handling:
Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum or plasma from cells within 2 hours. Refrigerate. Freeze if specimen cannot be assayed within 24 hours. Allow no more than one freeze/thaw cycle.
Stability:
24 hours refrigerated.

0.5 mL serum or plasma
Minimum Volume:
200 µL serum or plasma
Transport:
Refrigerated, or frozen on dry ice.
Comments:
Specimen containing other antibiotics must be frozen within 8 hours of collection.
Rejection Criteria:
Specimen frozen/thawed more than once; refrigerated specimen received in laboratory more than 24 hours after collection.
