Specimen Collection Details
Collection: NOTE: Do not order this test unless the ANA screen was performed off-site and ONLY an ANA Titer is wanted.
One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST).
Handling: Allow SST to clot 10 minutes; centrifuge, separate serum into a plastic vial. Refrigerate until transport. Freeze serum if it is to be held longer than 5 days before testing.
Standard Volume: 1 mL serum.
Minimum Volume: 100 µL serum.
Transport: Refrigerated.
Comments: ANA samples are screened using an EIA assay. See Antinuclear Antibodies (ANA) Screen (69100) . All samples that screen positive or indeterminate are titered using HEp-2 cells. The titer and pattern will be reported.
Rejection Criteria: Plasma, gross lipemia, hemolysis, or contaminated specimen.
