Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST).
Handling: Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum from cells immediately.
Stability: 48 hours ambient, 14 days refrigerated, or 1 year frozen.
Standard Volume: 1 mL serum.
Minimum Volume: 0.15 mL serum.
Transport: Refrigerated.
Comments: This test is intended to be used as a semi-quantitative means of detecting West Nile virus-specific IgM in serum specimens in which there is a clinical suspicion of West Nile infection.
Rejection Criteria: Plasma; heat-inactivated, severely lipemic, contaminated, or hemolyzed specimens; more than one freeze/thaw cycle.
