Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 5 mL red top tube or one 7.5 serum separator tube (SST). Also acceptable: One 4 mL lavender top tube (EDTA). Avoid hemolysis. Fasting specimen preferred. Patient should abstain from alcohol for 24 hours prior to collection. Foil wrap to protect from light during collection, storage and shipping.
Handling: Centrifuge and separate serum or plasma into a plastic vial immediately. Avoid hemolysis. Foil wrap to protect from light, and freeze. If multiple tests are ordered, freeze a separate aliquot for this test.
Stability: 30 days refrigerated or 6 months frozen. Unstable ambient.
Standard Volume: 2.5 mL serum or plasma.
Minimum Volume: 1.5 mL serum or plasma.
Transport: Frozen on dry ice and wrapped in foil.
