Specimen Collection Details
Collection: Two 4 mL lavender top tubes (EDTA) AND two 5 mL red top tubes. Do not use serum separator tubes (SST) or plasma separator tubes (PST).
Handling: Immediately after collection, continuously maintain all tubes at 37° C for one hour. Centrifuge, still maintaining at 37° C. Separate into two plastic vials and label as “serum” and “plasma.” Do not refrigerate or freeze.
Stability: 7 days ambient. Unstable refrigerated or frozen.
Standard Volume: 4 mL serum and 4 mL plasma.
Minimum Volume: 2 mL serum and 2 mL plasma.
Transport: Ambient.
Rejection Criteria: Handling other than specified.

Reference Range:
Cryoglobulin
Negative (positives reported as percent). If positive after 1 or 7 days, immunotyping of the cryoprecipitate is performed.
Cryofibrinogen
Negative (reported as positive or negative).
