Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST).
Handling: Centrifuge and separate serum from cells and immediately pour into a plastic vial.
Stability: 48 hours ambient, 14 days refrigerated, or 1 year frozen. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Standard Volume: 1 mL serum.
Minimum Volume: 300 µL serum.
Transport: Refrigerated, or frozen on dry ice.
Comments: Parallel testing is preferred. Label specimens plainly as ‘Acute’ or ‘Convalescent’. Convalescent specimen must be received within 30 days of acute specimen.
Rejection Criteria: Severe lipemia; contaminated, heat inactivated, or hemolyzed specimen.
