Specimen Collection Details
Collection: NOTE: These requirements are for the first trimester draw for the Sequential Integrated Prenatal Screen and can be performed only on individuals with a CRL between 39.0 mm and 80.0 mm (10 weeks, 5 days-13 weeks, 6 days gestation). NT values provided by a certified sonographer are required. Requires a second specimen to be submitted between 15 weeks, 0 days and 21 weeks, 6 days gestation, Sequential Integrated Screen, 2nd Trimester (41968) . Order on a PeaceHealth Laboratories Obstetrics requisition or electronically, and include the following information, required for test interpretation: patient’s date of birth, current weight, due date, dating method (US, LMP), number of fetuses, patient’s race, if patient requires insulin, if a previous child has neural tube defects or Down syndrome and, for in vitro fertilization pregnancies, the age of the egg donor. Also indicate if patient is a smoker (this alters one biomarker and requires a correction). Collect one 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST). Also acceptable: One 5 mL red top tube.
Handling: Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum from cells immediately. Refrigerate.
Stability: 4 days refrigerated at 2-8° C, or 30 days at -20° C. Allow no more than one freeze/thaw cycle.
Standard Volume: 2 mL serum
Minimum Volume: 1 mL serum
Transport: Refrigerated, or frozen on dry ice.
Comments: Incomplete information will delay patient results
Rejection Criteria: Gross hemolysis or lipemia.
