Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 10 mL yellow top tube (ACD solution A). Also acceptable: Yellow top tube (ACD solution B) or lavender top tube (EDTA).
Handling: Submit as whole blood. Do not spin.
Stability: 7 days ambient or 7 days refrigerated. Unstable frozen.
Standard Volume: 10 mL whole blood.
Minimum Volume: 3 mL whole blood.
Transport: Refrigerated.
Comments: HLA-B*5701 has been shown in retrospective clinical studies to be associated with Abacavir hypersensitivity reaction (HSR) in HIV patients. HLA-B*5701 genotyping may be useful for risk stratification.
Rejection Criteria: Frozen specimen; use of heparin tube.
