Specimen Collection Details
Collection: Bronchial secretions in a sterile mucus trap. Refrigerate.
Handling: If other tests are ordered, split specimen. Fix one specimen in Cytolyt Collection Fluid fixative for Cytology. Refrigerate and send other specimen fresh for other tests.
Stability: Fresh specimen ambient 2 hours, refrigerate for longer storage. Cytolyt Collection Fluid fixative specimen ambient 10 days.
Standard Volume: 4 mL secretion.
Minimum Volume: 2 mL secretion.
Transport: Specimen in Cytolyt Collection Fluid fixative ambient; fresh specimen refrigerated.
Comments: Refer to the Surgical Pathology section of the User Guide for special specimen collection instructions.
Rejection Criteria: Fresh specimen held ambient more than 2 hours; Cytolyt Collection Fluid fixative specimen held more than 10 days.
