Performed: Varies, twice each week
Released: 24 hours after setup at PeaceHealth Laboratories’ reference lab.
CPT Code: 83789-90

Reference Range:
40-92 µg/L
Values between 80 µg/L and 250 µg/L have been reported to indicate hyperthyroidism.
Values >250 µg/L may indicate iodine overload.
Administration of iodine-based contrast media and drugs, such as amiodarone, will yield elevated results.
Disinfectants such as betadine which contain iodine should not be used during venipuncture.
If gadolinium-containing contrast media has been administered, a specimen should not be collected for 48 hours.
