Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST). Also acceptable: One 4 mL green top tube (heparin). Specimen should be collected between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m.
Handling: Centrifuge and separate serum or plasma from cells and immediately pour into a plastic vial. Refrigerate.
Stability: 24 hours ambient, 7 days refrigerated, or 6 months frozen.
Standard Volume: 1 mL serum or plasma.
Minimum Volume: 0.4 mL serum or plasma.
Transport: Refrigerated.
Comments: This test is suggested for women and children due to an improved sensitivity of testosterone by LC-MS/MS. Testosterone Free, Females and Children by tandem mass spectrometry, only provides a result for the free testosterone value (pg/mL).
Rejection Criteria: EDTA plasma.
