Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST).
Handling: Centrifuge and separate serum into a plastic via within one hour of collection.
Stability: 48 hours ambient, 14 days refrigerated, or 1 year frozen.
Standard Volume: 1 mL serum
Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL serum
Transport: Refrigerated.
Comments: Paired testing of acute and convalescent specimens is recommended. Label tubes clearly as ‘acute’ or ‘convalescent.’
Rejection Criteria: Severely lipemic, hemolyzed, or contaminated specimen.

Reference Range:
< 1:8 Single positive antibody titers of greater than 1:32 may indicate past or current infection. Seroconversion or an increase in titers between acute and convalescent sera of at least fourfold is considered strong evidence of current or recent infection.
