Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST). Also acceptable: One 4 mL green top tube (sodium heparin) or one 6 mL pink top tube (EDTA K2. NOTE: Draw specimen at least 8 hours after last biotin dose.
Handling: Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum into a plastic vial. Freeze.
Stability: 8 hours ambient, 8 hours refrigerated, or 3 months frozen.
Standard Volume: 1 mL serum or plasma.
Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL serum or plasma
Transport: Frozen on dry ice.
Rejection Criteria: Hemolysis; specimen from in-patient receiving biotin doses > 5 mg/day.
