Comments: | Itraconazole is an antifungal drug useful for the treatment of blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, coccidioidomycosis, sporotrichosis, ringworm, tinea versicolor, and asperfillosis, as well as therapy for oral and esophageal candidiasis (thrush). Peak plasma concentrations are attained in 1.5 to 4 hours following oral administration. Hydroxyitraconazole, a metabolite of itraconazole, appears in blood in amounts approximately twice that of the parent drug, and has antifungal activity and pharmacokinetic similar to those of the parent compound. Plasma concentrations of itraconazole measured by HPLC are thus approximately 3.5 times lower than those determined by bioassay. Levels of both itraconazole and hydroxyitraconazole are provided. | ||||||||
Rejection Criteria: | Use of SST.
