Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 5 mL red top tube. Also acceptable: one 4 mL lavender top tube (EDTA), one 4 mL green top tube (sodium heparin) or one 4 mL grey top tube (sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate). DO NOT use serum separator tube (SST) or plasma separator tube (PST).
Handling: Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum or plasma from cells into a plastic vial. Refrigerate.
Stability: 5 weeks ambient, 6 weeks refrigerated, or 2 months frozen.
Standard Volume: 1.5 mL serum or plasma
Minimum Volume: 0.8 mL serum or plasma
Transport: Refrigerated
Rejection Criteria: Use of SST or PST.
