One 4 mL lavender top tube (EDTA), and/or 1 or 2 blood films. If only blood films are submitted, include an unstained slide if possible.
Handling:
Refrigerate blood. Prepare blood films if specimens will not be processed by lab within 24 hours of collection. Blood films may be allowed to air dry, then transported in a slide folder. Alternatively, wrap the slide(s) in heavy cardboard and tape shut.
Standard Volume:
4 mL EDTA whole blood and/or 2 blood films.
Minimum Volume:
0.5 mL EDTA whole blood in a 1 mL microcollection tube and/or 1 blood film.
Comments:
Indicate if a specific concern exists which prompted the request for slide review. Indicate if pathologist review of the slide is desired.
Rejection Criteria:
Damaged slides; inadequate stain on slides submitted.
