Specimen Collection Details
Collection: Two 4.5 mL light blue tubes (sodium citrate).
Handling: Immediately after collection centrifuge and separate platelet-poor plasma into a plastic vial. Freeze.
Standard Volume: 2.5 mL plasma
Minimum Volume: 1 mL plasma
Transport: Frozen on dry ice.
Comments: The most important inhibitor to plasmin, alpha2-antiplasmin prevents plasmin action on fibrin during fibrinolysis. Decreased levels may lead to easy bruising, epistaxis, hematuria, menorrhagia, hemarthrosis, and bleeding after trauma or surgery.
