Specimen Collection Details
Collection: 10 mL from a well mixed 24-hour urine collection. Refrigerate during collection, storage, and transport. No preservatives are necessary.
Handling: Note total volume. Keep refrigerated.
Stability: Refrigerated. Unstable ambient or frozen.
Standard Volume: 10 mL aliquot urine
Minimum Volume: 4 mL aliquot urine
Transport: Refrigerated.
Comments: Random urine is acceptable, but there are no normal ranges.

Useful for detection of metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD) as a secondary specimen to confirm results from leukocytes (preferred initial specimen).
