Specimen Collection Details
Collection: TWO 5 mL red top tubes. Do not use serum separator tube (SST) or plasma separator tube (PST). Also acceptable: Heparinized plasma.

NOTE: Peak serum levels are recommended when monitoring patients because the level in the blood drops so rapidly that many negative results are found at the trough. The peak occurs at 40 to 90 minutes post dose.

Handling: Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum or plasma from cells into a plastic vial. Refrigerate.
Stability: 7 days ambient, 14 days refrigerated, or 17 months frozen.
Standard Volume: 4 mL serum or plasma
Minimum Volume: 2 mL serum or plasma
Transport: Refrigerated.
Rejection Criteria: Use of SST or PST.
