Methodology: Hemagglutination (HA)
Edit Date: 1/1/1900
Performed: Monday-Friday (except holidays). STAT testing is performed daily.
Released: Next day (Monday if received Friday-Sunday).
Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 6 mL pink top tube (EDTA) for Blood Bank. Also acceptable: Two 4 mL lavender top tubes (EDTA).
Handling: Do not centrifuge or separate plasma. Complete and accurate labelling of specimen and requisition is required. Patient’s full first and last name and date of birth must appear and be identical on both the specimen and requisition. Tubes should be labeled at the time blood is drawn. Do not cover original label.
If tests for other than Blood bank are ordered, send separate specimen for those tests.
Standard Volume: 6 mL whole blood
Minimum Volume: 1 mL whole blood
Transport: Ambient or refrigerated
Rejection Criteria: Gross hemolysis; use of SST; incorrect or inconsistent labelling of patient information on tube label or test requisition.
