Performed: Wednesday
Released: 24-72 hours after setup at PeaceHealth Laboratories’ reference lab
CPT Code: 82784-90 / 82787-90 x2
Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 7.5 mL serum separator tube (SST).
Handling: Allow to clot, centrifuge and separate serum from cells into a plastic vial. Refrigerate. Provide patient’s age on requisition to allow reporting of age-specific reference ranges.
Stability: 5 days ambient, 14 days refrigerated, or 2 months frozen.

Minimum Volume: 1 mL serum

Comments: Approximately 10 to 15% of serum immunoglobulin is IgA, which contains 10% carbohydrate, and has a half-life of 6 days. About 10 to 15% of IgA in serum in polymeric, particularly IgA2, which is more resistant to destruction by some pathogenic bacteria than is IgA1. This test Identifies and quantitates IgA subclasses 1 and 2.
