Specimen Collection Details | |||||||||
Collection: | Nasopharyngeal swabs or nasal swabs using the BD Universal Viral Transport Media (UVT) collection kit (PeaceHealth Laboratories order #11528) with flocked swabs. Nasal aspirates and washes in a sterile container or ≤3 mL of nasal aspirate/wash in UVT are also acceptable. Nasopharyngeal swabs in M4 and M4RT are also acceptable, however, M4 and M4RT media is no longer provided by PeaceHealth Laboratories. | ||||||||
Handling: | Refrigerate and transport to laboratory at 2-8° C. Source of specimen is required. | ||||||||
Stability: | From collection to initiation of testing: 72 hours refrigerated; freeze for longer storage ≤ -70° C (≤ -70° C or lower freezer required, do not freeze in a standard freezer). |
