Specimen Collection Details
Collection: One 4 mL lavender top tube (EDTA). Fill tube at least 1/3 full.
Handling: Refrigerate. Send to the laboratory same day.
Stability: Specimen may be tested up to 24 hours after collection if refrigerated. A small percentage (<5%) of abnormal specimens tested 16 hours or more after collection will correct to within the normal range, according to PeaceHealth Laboratories' stability studies.
Ambient specimen stable 4 hours.
Standard Volume: 4 mL EDTA whole blood.
Minimum Volume: 1 mL EDTA whole blood.
Transport: Refrigerated.
Rejection Criteria: Specimen age; clotted or frozen specimen; marked hemolysis.
