One 4 mL or 2 mL lavender top tube (EDTA) or 4-5 peripheral blood or bone marrow slides.
Handling:
Refrigerate blood. Protect slides from light by placing in slide folders or wrap in heavy cardboard and tape closed. Send to the laboratory same day or send slides within one week for optimum stain results.
Standard Volume:
4 mL EDTA whole blood, or 5 slides.
Minimum Volume:
0.5 mL EDTA whole blood, or 3 slides.
Transport:
Refrigerated.
Comments:
Include hematology information including bone marrow differential, if available, to assist with pathologist interpretation. Used to detect monocytic differentiation of immature cells in evaluation of leukemia. See also Peroxidase Stain (23240).
Rejection Criteria:
Insufficient material on slides for evaluation; broken slides.
